SquirrelRC 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2013 I know that people have mounted the wheel from the momo set on the g25 but can it be done with a g27? I want to go back to that rim because I mostly drive prototypes and formula vehicles and the button layout on the g27 annoys me.
Gunstar 615 Report post Posted September 25, 2013 It's doable with either the red or the black MOMO rims (I've seen pix and videos, no personal experience) and the black versions wiring is said to be an almost straight swap, although actually mounting the rim takes some serious modification. Good luck!
Krassi 692 Report post Posted September 25, 2013 I have this G25 mod - the Momo rim from Red Logitech Momo to G25 base. To G25 is plug and play;) without any modification, only need to connect wires for buttons and paddles. To 27 can be done too , but little modification is needed.I love that setup , rim is lighter than stock G25 and FFB feels stronger:) Great for prototypes and formula cars. SquirrelRC 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2013 I have the black momo. Any idea of what the modifications would be for the g27? Is it just a plug difference?
Krassi 692 Report post Posted September 25, 2013 The black momo is different , you need to cut everything on the back of the rim to make it like flat like plate on the back and drill 6 holes to fit 6 holes on g27 shaft ..its easy to do , you just must be careful to measure the exact place for the 6 holes, they must match g27 original holes. SquirrelRC 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2013 So I couldn't take the Momo rim and the paddles etc back to the base and put it in place of the g27 wheel etc? It wouldn't be too hard to make a flat plate for the back of the momo but i like the smaller black paddles and where they are positioned.
Joe Berkett 70 Report post Posted September 25, 2013 Go to simsport.com They make an aluminium adapter plate for aftermarket wheels to fit the G25 and G27. Best 30 bucks I ever spent!

Mate , the guy ask not for real Momo wheel - he wants to put Logitech plastic Momo rim to G27:)

It wouldn't be too hard to make a flat plate for the back of the momo but i like the smaller black paddles and where they are positioned. In the case with red Momo I used it with his own smaller paddles, but black Momo is different . It can be done ofcourse as you like , Dissasemble the wheel rim from the wheel base and make picture of the back, cuz I dont have this wheel around me to see how is mounted to the base, but maybe you will need to do some plastic adapter that bolts to G27 and wheel rim + paddles bolted to this adapter. To use the 6 six buttons it will be easy to wire, but for paddles you will need to solder wires from G27 rim PCB to black momo switches. In G25 is easier without soldering, but as I posted a question here - noone knows wich wires from G27 are paddles ,left button , right button etc.. So its not so hard, but you must be familiar with some instruments:)
SquirrelRC 0 Report post Posted September 26, 2013 I'm at a technical school for electronics so that portion won't be to hard. And I heard they are just jst plugs which I have a bunch of from working with RC's. I'll try to get a pic up later today.
Krassi 692 Report post Posted September 26, 2013 Guys it`s easy work to do DIY - do it yourself:) Derek is a proffesional and if you ask for help better be for harder to do works:) When the Squirrel shows his pics we will find solution:))

SquirrelRC 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2013 So this Is going to involve some engineering. Disassembling the momo revealed that every thing from the paddles back is effectively part of the whole gear and sensor mess. I will have to make a new back for the momo or just go to making my own wheel. I am going to see about 3d printing a new back.
Krassi 692 Report post Posted September 27, 2013 3d printing is great , I never seen this in person, please tell me how hard is the material - its kinda plastic looks very hard
TDH 4 Report post Posted September 29, 2013 Hey SquirrelRC I am working on a mod not dissimilar to yours. I have a red and black momo right now, I really love the red one cause it's leather wrapped and nice and thick, falls good in my hands, I noticed inside the red wheel, that the plugs are not a straight forward swap, actually it's a little daunting as I am no electronics expert. Forget derek spear, you don't need his adaptater, i have a red momo on my G27 and it doesn't need any adaptater. Just some sligh modification and you're done. Now for wiring the red momo to the G27 here's the wiring connection
TDH 4 Report post Posted September 29, 2013 Very cool TDH, Ta for posting this diagram, how did you connect the plugs in the red momo to your G27 PCB? Also might you be able to post a few more pics of the finished wheel? Did you retain the square metal shifters or did you use the G27 ones? Do you have pics of the mod? Look forward to your reply, cheers mate, AussieStig Hey, Actually i've no more the G27 pcb hub, i use a keyboard pcb because i add more button to my wheel. In case you want to stick with the 6 button only then you can keep the G27 pcb hub you just cut the wiring from the momo pcb and solder them as showed in my above illustration. Also you gonna need then to relocate the G27 pcb hub somewhere in the back case. The reason to this relocation is because in this mod we don't keep the G27 hub. I unfortunatelly didn't make various picture of the process of my mod but i can make some to show you the basis idea. Give me some time and i'll post them with some how to. SquirrelRC 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2013 3d printing is great , I never seen this in person, please tell me how hard is the material - its kinda plastic looks very hard It's abs. the problem arises with the glue that holds the plastic particles together. If you make it thin to the point that the glue is the main structure it can be very brittle. For most applications it actually works pretty well. F1 teams use it to make adjustments to their cars (Mostly air inlets and the like).
