Presenting us driving DiRT Rally with the Oculus Rift CV1 at E3 2016. This was an opportunity to try a WIP version of VR support in DiRT Rally, with VR support still being about a month out for the general public as part of the final update to DiRT Rally.
Besides talking DiRT Rally support, we also used this opportunity to talk about the Oculus Rift CV1, since it was our first chance trying it. It was mixed bag trial, with some parts of it being cool; forgetting your at E3, natural feel of driving the circuit, and some parts being less cool; the lower than expected resolution (knew it would be low…just not so low) and a tunnel vision feeling with the compressed FOV over what John is usually use to.
But like we mentioned in the video, take everything with a grain of salt. Hard to give too much judgment of a five minute test of a WIP technology implementation at a trade show. Just have to give your impressions and create the platform for a lively conversation.
And speaking of which, if you want to hear more VR talk follow up from this video, check out the June 22nd edition of This Week Inside Sim Racing were Darin, John and chat unpack the video and talk more about all things VR.
