It’s an interesting thought, that Project CARS is only a month away! After all of this hype and buildup, virtual racers worldwide will be able to try PCARS for themselves instead of drooling over videos. However, we are still a month away, and we’ll continue to see preview videos, and this one is an awesome one!

YouTube user 1awd1 has been posting quite a few videos showcasing racing titles on his motion rig, and this time he has taken a look at Project CARS. He took the RUF RGT8 GT3 race car around Road America (above), as well as taking the same car around Bathurst. He utilized a GoPro Hero 3 camera to capture a unique perspective of his driving.
I have to say, I like how you can (to an extent) experience everything the driver is experiencing, thanks to the GoPro camera. I particularly how you could really notice the jolt the SimXperience motion setup gives when the car shifts up or down. The rumble strips seemed so violent, it looked to be borderline disorienting. Someday, I would love to try a rig like that, to feel what it is like to experience a motion setup.
What are your thoughts on 1awd1’s video? Are you looking to get Project CARS when it releases next month?

Hi,
I tend to agree that the video shows the rig is working the driver hard. I’ve built a rig using the SimExperience actuators and I found that the default settings from SimExperience are all like this. A lot of it is down to the speed and acceleration settings of the actuators. They can be turned down individually, but then of course some of the fidelity (rumble strips) can be lost.
I started with XSim software, but found that too unreliable. As I mainly do I-Racing (when I get a chance), I wrote my own software to control the actuators. I can the tweak things just to my liking from an APP whilst driving. Running for 25 mins can get tiring, so I like to tone it down during an official race.
Version 4 of SimExperience is looking interesting too. I might give that a whirl sometime.
Cheers
I watched an interview of the inventor of Gopro on Charlie Rose the other night. It was funny how it started as a way for him to document and share his surfing and then when he had some money he started racing and that is when it really exploded, but he attributed the real success to the mounting system he and his people invented. Then they went on to improve the camera itself. Anyways, it is a good video. The actuators really throw the driver around. Hope he has his belts on tight.
Now this is what I call a racing game! Project Cars looks so much more fun to play than DriveClub.
This video rocks, great driving, was just like I was driving myself! very cool! 😉 😉
Looks so fluid, Looking forward to November when this game hits the stores.
Thx for the “virtual” drivealong! 😉
Grtz, Pat.
So so good!
Thx for the comments. Will do more Videos like this. 😀
