Kunos Simulazioni’s Marco Massarutto has released a few development photos of the highly anticipated Nürburgring Nordschleife, coming to Assetto Corsa in the future “Dream Pack DLC.” The pics show how real life point clouds are transferred to “tangible” road surfaces in Assetto Corsa. They also show off the detail that will be required to not only line the 20.81 km (12.93 mile) German track with curbs, guardrails and shrubbery but the large amount of graffiti that populates the racing surface.
If things go as plan, Assetto Corsa should become the second racing title to offer a laser scanned version of the Nordschleife, with Forza Motorsports 5 being the first. This will squeeze them ahead of iRacing, which has also announced a laser scanned version of track that is expected to be released in the summer of 2015.
No matter what title you drive, as a sim racer it’s exciting to see such a spectacular circuit coming to fruition in our favorite virtual worlds.

All those scanners and modders and the like have my undying appreciation and admiration. Keep up the good fight.
